Barbara Ann Spurlin, 77 of Indianapolis, passed away July 10, 2018 in Danville. Born June 11, 1941 in Cleveland, Ohio, she was the daughter of Sylvester Wittenberg and Martha I. Hendricks Weisbarth. She married the love of her life, Paul R. Spurlin on August 29, 1981 in Speedway and he preceded her in death in 2008. She has missed him dearly these last 10 years.
Barbara began her career at the Wayne Township Fire Department implementing the Juvenile Fire-setter Program. She then continued educating and mentoring children involved with the program for the Indianapolis Fire Department, until her retirement. She was a member of the Kiwanis Indywest Daybreaker Club, Indiana Fire Instructors Association, and helped with the Hoosier Burn Camp, near Lafayette. Barbara was the very first mascot for the Indianapolis Colts Football Team.
Survivors include her son, Kevin (Deb) McGovern of Danville; her daughter, Maureen (Dan) MacDonald of Brownsburg; and her grandchildren, Laureen (Shane) Ridgway, James S. Morrow, Bailey McGovern, Seth MacDonald, Matthew McGovern and Jasmine McGovern.
Services will be at 1:00 pm on Friday, July 13, 2018 in Baker Funeral Home, Danville, with burial to follow in West Ridge Park Cemetery, Indianapolis. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the service in the funeral home.
