Welcome to the memorial page for

Alfrieda Ruth (Regier) Penner

November 5, 1927 ~ November 24, 2017 (age 90) 90 Years Old

Alfrieda Ruth Penner, 90, went to be with her Lord and Savior on November 24, 201.  She was born on November 5, 1927, in Newton, Kansas to the late Dietrich and Katherine Regier.  On June 14, 1953 she married Ervin Penner, the good-looking guy she met while working in the kitchen at Bethel College in North Newton, Kansas.  She was a homemaker and co-owner of AA Septic Service.  As a devoted, loving wife, mother of four, and grandmother, her church and family were very important to her.  She was an excellent cook and hostess to many that she invited to her home.  Her cooking skills blessed many in the community, as she would take food to friends and neighbors.  Many hours were spent making sure each family gathering was a special occasion and enjoyed by all.  She saw the beauty of God’s creation, as was expressed in her china painting which she loved doing in her later years.  Children and grandchildren were blessed with gifts of china painting, blue jean blankets, and Christmas decorations, to name a few of the items that she crafted for their enjoyment.

She enjoyed attending Bible Study Fellowship and was a member of Plainfield Christian Church where she looked forward to the Golden Glows trips and monthly luncheons.  She accepted Christ as her Savior as a sophomore in high school and she was baptized in the Jordan River on a trip to the Holy Land on February 1, 1996.  In her last twenty-five years, Ervin and she enjoyed traveling with her daughter and husband, Katherine and Terry, from the national parks, to the Rose Bowl Parade to Europe and Australia and New Zealand.  She and her husband also enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels for many years and for the last several years enjoyed fellowshipping for lunch at the Hendricks County Senior Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Ervin, on April 4, 2017, and by her brother Arnold (Mary) Regier and brother-in-law, Don Penner.

She is survived by four children, Katherine (Terry) Ward, James (Darlene), Yvonne (Justin) Crowder, Jay (Paula), 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, a sister, Dorothy (Willis) Harder, sister in-laws, Leona Penner and Janet Penner and brother-in-law, Gene (Pat) Penner.  Calling hours will be on Sunday November 26, 2017 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Hall-Baker Funeral Home, Plainfield.  Funeral services will held on Monday November 27, 2017 at 11 a.m. in Plainfield Christian Church with calling one hour prior to the service in the church.  Rev. Steve White will officiate.  Burial will follow in Clayton Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Gideon’s International or Samaritan’s Purse.
