Norman L. Underwood, 84 of Plainfield, passed away on February 5, 2018. He was born on May 24, 1933 in Hendricks County, Indiana to James Joseph and Ella Carile Underwood Mantooth. Norman served as a Medic in the US Army during the Korean War. After his service, he hired on at Allison’s as a welder and retired after 37 years of service. Norman was included in the April 2017 Indy Honor Flight for his service during the Korean War. He was humbled by the experience and felt it was a privilege to be selected. He was a member of the Plainfield Christian Church and often used his artistic talents to create and simplify the wooden crafts used during VBS for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, wood carving, and building any object from a picture or an idea. Norman was preceded in death by his brothers: Thornton, Walter, Joseph, Eddie, and William Underwood. Visitation will be held on Thursday February 8, 2018 from 11a.m. to 1 p.m. in Hall-Baker Funeral Home, Plainfield. Rev. Steve White will officiate funeral services starting at 1 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Clayton Cemetery. Survivors include: Nieces: Martha Nunley, Rosalee Sifford, Melissa (Jeff) Young; Nephews: Rick (Sandy) Underwood, Ron Lowrimore, Tim (Crystal) and Matt (Laura) Underwood; Stepson: Shawn (Ginny) Poindexter; Grandsons: Bryce and Brett Poindexter. Norman was also blessed with many Grand and Great-Grand Nieces and Nephews for whom he was proud of for each of their accomplishments.
