Lawrence E. (Bud) Thompson, Plainfield, passed away on Friday May 19, 2017

He was born in Montgomery County, Indiana, February 4, 1924 to John and Gladys (Stewart) Thompson. He graduated from Roachdale High School in 1942. He was retired after 44 years as a Process Engineer with Federal Mogul Corporation, Mooresville, Indiana.

He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Kathryn (Duncan) Thompson who he married April 11, 1943.  Survivors include: Carolyn (Jimmy) Fulkerson of Franklin, IN, Phil (Debbie) Thompson of Mooresville, IN, Patty (David) Harvey of Lexington, NC, Linda (Dave) Van Aken of Chester, VA, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.  One brother, Bill, is deceased.  Lawrence served proudly during World War II in the Navy aboard the battleship the USS Alabama. They were in the final battles of the War in the South Pacific, and his ship led the fleet into Tokyo Bay for the signing of the Peace Treaty with Japan.  Funeral services will be held at Hall-Baker Funeral Home, 339 East Main St, Plainfield, IN on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at 10:00AM.  Following the funeral services, Graveside services will be 12 Noon at Roachdale Cemetery, Hwy 236 Roachdale, IN.  Friends may call from 5:00PM - 8:00 PM on Monday, May 22, 2017 at the Hall-Baker Funeral Home, Plainfield.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana, Inc, 3737 Waldemere Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46241-7234.
