John Claude Vittetow

John Claude Vittetow, 85, passed away on September 8, 2016, at St. Vincent Hospital surrounded by all his children.  He was born in Cartersburg, Indiana and for the majority of his life resided in Danville, Indiana.  He was a General Contractor in the commercial and residential field and was the retired owner of J. C. Vittetow and Sons. He graduated from Clayton, Indiana High School in 1949. He served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the Marine Corp during the Korean War. He was a survivor of the
Chosin Reservoir Campaign.  After his service he studied Civil Engineering at Purdue University.  In 1961 he married Carolyn Tschudi and together they had five children. He was a lifetime member of the Marine Corp League and a longtime member of the American Legion.  He was Past Governor of the Danville Moose Lodge.  John was an aircraft enthusiast and enjoyed restoring his Piper Tri-Pacer.  He was a long time member of the Experimental Aircraft Association as well as the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.  He enjoyed tinkering with old tractors and was a former member of the Hendricks County Antique Tractor & Machinery Association.   He is survived by his sons, Aaron, Kirk, Mark (Mara) and daughters, Cheri (Jim) Allen and Angie Vittetow; grandchildren Leann Vittetow, Taylor Allen, Brittany Gambill, Braden Limp, Mackenzie Allen, Klayton Vittetow, Kieffer Vittetow, Lilly Vittetow, Aidan Adams, Ariana Adams and great grandchildren Nova Beasley, Kason Allen and Hunter Allen. A private service for immediate family will be held. Memorial contributions can be made to the local Marine Corp League, James P. Farber, MCL Det. 1183, c/o Mike Rediske, 1232 Kinross Drive, Avon, Indiana 46123.
