James L. Lowry, 77, of Avon, passed away on October 19, 2017. Born November 20, 1939 in Carbondale, Illinois, he was the son of James and Mary Summers Lowry. James graduated from Broad Ripple High School, attended Butler University, became a minister, and then completed his law degree at the IU School of Law. He also served during this time in the National Guard Reserves.
He began practicing law in 1966 in Rushville where he served as the Rush County Prosecutor for 6 years. He has practiced law in Danville for 46 years with Kendall Wood Lowry & Kessinger. He was a past member of the Rush County and Hendricks County Bar Association as well as a sustaining member of the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association and a member of the National Lawyers Association and Christian Legal Services.
Mr. Lowry was very active with the Life Centers of Indiana and served in many capacities. He was an active member and elder at the Crossroads Church of Avon.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Shaffer Lowry of Avon; children, Jennifer (Patrick) McNabb of Danville, James (Fay) Lowry of Columbia, MO., Thomas (Danica) Lowry of Eau Claire, WI., Lynne (Kip) Kypuros of San Marcos, TX., Sean (Sarah) McCloskey, Timothy McCloskey, both of Indianapolis; sister, Lyndel (Stanley) Trager of Carmel; 13 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. His parents and sister, Diane Lively, preceded him in death.
Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 pm on Thursday, October 26, 2017 in Baker Funeral Home, Danville. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, October 27, 2017 at the Crossroads Church of Avon.
