October 23, 1919 ~ July 28, 2017 (age 97) 97 Years Old

Edith Gill, Danville, passed away on July 28, 2017 at the age of 97.

The last surviving Roberts girl of Noble Township, Shelby County born to Vannoy and Fleda (Mount) Roberts, she was born the middle child, Edith Florence, on October 23, 1919. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Thelma, Edna, Gene and Jan, her husband Billy Gill, and son-in-law Paul Saddler.

She leaves as her legacy the Gill girls of Danville. They are Jeanne Shackelford  (DHS 1958) Judy Grimes (DHS 1963) Jinny Thompson (DHS 1968) and Jan Saddler (DHS 1971). Also surviving is son-in-law Mark Thompson.

Known affectionately as Meemaw to her grandchildren, Gina Grimes Kelley (John) of Nashville, Tennessee and Butch Davisson (Eunduck) of Charleston, South Carolina, she will be remembered by great grandchildren Sidney Grimes, Devin and Cash Kelley, and Gill and Grace Davisson. Loved by generations of nieces and nephews and hosts of friends from Ft. Myers Beach and beyond, she was always interested in the lives and welfare of them all.

Edith came to Danville 80 years ago to obtain a teaching certificate from Central Normal College. There she met and married William T. Gill who died in July of 2005. She believed in education and a high standard of excellence in everything.

She was a magnificent storyteller, possessing a keen sense of wit and insight. She was a musician, an extraordinary cook and a confidante.

We will think of her every day of our lives.

There will be a celebration of her life on Sunday, August 20 with visitation at 2:00 and service at 2:30 at the Danville United Methodist Church, 820 W. Mill, where she was a longtime member. Contributions may be made in her name to the Indiana Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, a cause dear to her heart.
