Don Walters passed away peacefully at home with family by his side after a long battle with cancer. Don was 75 years old, born in Terre Haute, Indiana to William Forest Walters and Maude Brown Walters Riley on her 22nd birthday. His sister Penny Owens survives. Half brothers and sisters William Walters, Evelyn Lindorf and Lorena Buck all preceded him in death. Don was raised in Indianapolis, Indiana attending Arsenal Tech High School where he met Jesse Irene (Eichmiller) Walters. They were married on February 22, 1963; she survives after 54 years of marriage. They had 3 sons and a daughter and were raised in Danville, Indiana, Gary, Ronnie (Melody), Mike (Chris) Walters and Michelle Gardner. Grandchildren: April, Nathaniel, Zach, Anthony, Ashley, David, Hannah and Olivia. He also leaves 10 great-grandchildren with another due next month that would have coincided with his anniversary. Don was a sheet metal worker and a member of local 20. His passion of hunting and fishing was learned from his dad and brother as a child. Then as a patriarch over the next three generations, he left a legacy of the same passion. Don enjoyed many hobbies, family gatherings, picnics, hunting, fishing and Knife Making. He took great pride in managing The Crane disabled hunt for the past 33 years. He loved, worked and sacrificed for family, friends and strangers. He set an example of honesty, hard work and never settling for second best. Don was a member of the Whitestone Christian Church. Calling hours will be held on Friday January 5, 2018 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Hall-Baker Funeral Home, Plainfield. Rev. Harlan Kincade will conduct a memorial service on Friday at 4 p.m. in the funeral home.
